Gaudy to Gothic

This mirror is the first thing I ever sold, and probably one of the easiest things I ever revamped. I have one like it at home that I love, so I knew exactly what to do with it.  It is an oval mirror with a fancy plastic gold frame.  They are pretty common, I found mine in a pile of stuff marked free by the side of the road,
and I got this one for $2 at an estate sale.   They are pretty hideous when you first see them, but they are easy to change up.  First, this one looked like it had been dropped and a bit of the scroll work on the bottom was missing.  My husband just cut the other side of the bottom to match and cleaned up the broken side a bit.  Then I just sprayed it with some gloss black paint.  You could just leave it there, but I like to take it a little further.  I lightly highlighted it with Martha Stewart's metallic paint in "Thundercloud".  I love this stuff, I'm working on a chair with it now.  It's hard to tell in the picture, but it really pops live.  So, if you find one of these beauts don't pass it up, take it home and doll it up.  I think you will be happy you did.
