Amarrei's Rocker

Am I reverting back to my childhood, or channeling my inner child?  It sure seems like it, my last three posts have all been about things for kids.  I swear this should be the last one for awhile.
Last summer my mother-in-law bought a cute little rocker at a yard sale for her newest great granddaughter.  Now it wasn't bad to start with, but it had that '60s French provincial thing going on, so I thought maybe we could bling it up a bit.

Here's the before:

My mother-in-law's favorite color is purple, so off to the paint store we went.  She picked out a pretty light lilac for the main color, and a dark lilac and spring green for the details.  I just did a light sanding to remove some of the old varnish and then painted the base color.  Let me say one thing, I HATE spindles!  At first I tried to brush the paint on - it dripped.  Then I used a foam brush - it dripped, but less.  So I sanded off the drips and carefully put on a second coat.  Then came the fun part.  I knew I wanted to detail the bottom front spindles with the dark lilac, that was easier said then done.  Does anyone have a suggestion on how to make a clean line on a convex edge?  I tried to tape it, but it wouldn't lay flat enough, so I free handed it.  That involved a few cuss words and multiple touch ups.

For the top I printed out Amarrei's name, transferred it to the chair with carbon paper, and carefully painted over it.  The butterflies are just some stencils that I outlined in a green pencil and then filled in with the dark purple, spring green, and a light baby pink.  A couple of coats of wipe on polyurethane to help protect it and it is ready for hours of rocking.  I hope she likes it.
